RHC's Incentives Make News

Hendrick Durham Auto Mall was featured on the local news this week for the way it has been able to attract customers in the face of a seemingly slow economy and soaring gas prices.

General Manager Doug Harbison was interviewed Monday on WRAL-TV, the local CBS affiliate in Raleigh.

The downtown dealership is offering rebates of up to $9,000 on certain vehicles. The incentives seem to be working as the dealership continues to bring buyers into its showroom.

"You can either take it all at once," Harbison said of the rebate, "or you can take it over a term period, with gas being at a reduced rate."

Although sales are slow, Harbison said people continue to buy SUVs because the price is right.

In fact, just Monday, the dealership sold an Avalanche to a customer from Connecticut, who said she found no better deal in the entire Southeast than the one she got in Durham

14 Years Ago Today: Police Pursue O.J.

Speaking of SUVs, perhaps the most famous SUV in history made its national on-air debut on this date in history.

On June 17, 1994, police followed a white Ford Bronco registered to O.J. Simpson during a slow-speed pursuit on the L.A. Freeway. Al Cowling, Simpson's friend and former Buffalo Bills teammate, drove the SUV as Simpson sat in the back with a gun, money and a disguise. Simpson -- suspected of killing his wife, Nicole, and another man -- was arrested a short time later. He was acquitted of the two murders in 1995.
